Great Game and Food Ideas for Bridal Showers
Almost every woman will be an integral part of a bridal shower at some point in her life. She will either be the bride-to-be and guest of honor, or else the host, or at the very least, a guest. In fact, most women take part in more than one shower in their lives—and learn the essential elements of the parties.
Among these essentials are good food and good games. But how do you know which games and which food are the best? You start with a theme. In fact, the theme will determine most things about your bridal shower. Your invitations, music, and venue will be determined by this theme. And of course, food and games will also be determined by it.
Some showers don’t have themes. However, they are becomingly increasingly more popular as the hosts of these showers look for unique ways to set their event apart from others. To determine your theme, start with interests that you know the bride has. Does she love tennis? Then decorate with tennis accessories, including a shower cake that perhaps has a tennis court drawn in icing, with tiny tennis players on top. You could even request that guests arrive in tennis player’s outfits.
So let’s talk about those two big parts of the shower: food and games. When it’s time to consider the food, look beyond the normal vegetables and ranch dressing / dip. Instead, check through recipe books for .unusual appetizers, and try your hand at making them. As you do so, be thinking of ways that you could incorporate the food into your theme.
Using the tennis example above, any round food items could be called “tennis balls.” Make sure you have tested the food and tasted it before the day of the shower itself. If it tastes horrible, you’ll want time to come up with something else.
To make the food items look fancy and appealing, look for some simple garnish ideas, such as creating roses from tomato peel. Begin at one end of your tomato, peeling a strip approximately one inch wide, and then work down to the tomato bottom—hopefully without breaking it. Take this strip and roll it so that it looks like a rose. A few “tomato roses” will catch a lot of people’s attention. Also consider decorating other foods, including the cake, with delicious, edible flowers such as nasturtiums and pansies.
Your games also, when possible, should have something to do with your theme. As with the often, often it’s just a matter of taking the games that you’d planned to play anyway, and add a theme-related twist to it. For instance, some popular bridal shower games are to create a life-sized cut-out of a famous person, blindfold the guests, and have them try to kiss him on the lips. Using our tennis theme mentioned above, you could make this a cut-out of a famous male tennis player.
Your shower’s originality will come down to you and good planning—as well as lots of imagination. Make it memorable by doing something truly special for the bride to be.
